I have decided on my topic for my Senior Thesis. I am going to analyze the relationship between social media and mass shootings. Why when mass shootings occur, you only see what your political view wants you to see?

Reflection:
It seems that the overwhelming number of sources come from scholarly journals, which I believe is a good start. I do think that there could be a better balance and may look for a few more news articles that could be applicable for the topic of mass shootings especially considering how new of a topic this is. I think that it would be very beneficial to be able to get a solid outline going so that I will be able to recognize voices that are out there and it may cause me to enable the topic to be seen from all the necessary viewpoints.
Hey Blaine! This is a great research question! I think you have a solid topic, and one that I would like to read more about. All of your sources look like they are all relevant to your topic. I like that you have different sources, some on mass shootings, some on social media, and then others that link those two ideas together. Sometimes it can be difficult for me to find sources, but it seems like you were able to put it together. This looks good and I am excited to see how you combine all your research together for the proposal.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Blaine!! Good focus on the rhetoric of social media here..
ReplyDeleteIMPORTANT: To position your topic within the PTW field of emphasis , be sure to throw into the mix at least 4 articles from PTW-specific journals (see "Sources on PTW" on Canvas/top part). Look for published journals where the PTW scholars used "SOCIAL MEDIA" on their research. This way, you might get ideas for your research design later on.
Best,
Dr. B
