There are a few different ideas that I am considering studying for both this class as well as simultaneously study into a deeper level for my senior thesis paper.
- Study the relationship between social media and political ideology among young adults. How is twitter affecting the way youth think about politics?
- How should AI be taught in schools to recognize the pros and cons effectively?
- How are athletes at the collegiate level treated differently than regular students?
I would say my level of interest is shown in the order above. I think that I will like see the way the technical communication is affecting the younger generations biases.
Hi Blaine! Those all sound like great ideas to use for research. They also sound like they would each necessitate different methods of research. I find it sort of interesting that you have such a spread here in your ideas. There is also a lot of potential for different focuses to take in the first idea. It is a specific idea which gives you some structure, but there is also some leeway to play around with once you actually start research and see what is already published on the subject. Overall, you seem well-prepared for the semester, so kudos to you and good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Blaine,
ReplyDeleteGood start on your first blog!! Based on the 3 topics above, the first one on social media/politics has the best match to PTW, especially since this topic focuses on the central approach for our field: Analyzing TEXT (e.g., digital, multimedia, print, etc.). Note that if you decide to pursue this type of social media platform, make sure to update its new name to X (formerly Twitter) as you delve into the hashtags, and so forth.
As always, start plowing through some scholarly articles for ideas (I'll also introduce the Lit. Review writing assignment #1 next meeting) and once you're ready to identify your direction -- whether content analysis, qualitative, or other type of research method -- let me know and maybe we can set a brief conference to talk about it, ok?
